American Airlines and Oncor are completing a major new project that will see the airline replace more than 1,600 traditional lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LED (light-emitting diode) lighting in one of the largest single installations of its kind in the United States. This project will be showcased at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Fifth Annual Meeting on Sept. 22-25 in New York City.Oncor’s Take A Load Off, Texas? LED Lighting Program will help offset some of the cost of installing the new lighting system with incentives that will help save enough electricity to power approximately 150 average US homes for a year. The installation, which is currently underway at two multi-story parking garages near American Airlines’ corporate headquarters, will allow American Airlines to receive an aggregate of $362,887 in financial incentives from Oncor’s Take A Load Off, Texas LED Lighting Program over the next 12 months.

These fixtures consume 60 percent less energy and last 50,000 hours or three times longer than traditional light sources, resulting in a reduction in maintenance costs and green house gas emissions. Lighting Science Group of Satellite Beach, Florida, the manufacturer of the LED based Low Bay Luminaires to be installed in the American Airlines parking garages, represented Oncor in this project. The CGI Annual Meeting brings together global leaders from business, government, academia, science, religion and non-governmental organizations, including numerous heads of state, former heads of state, CEOs of multinational corporations and prominent philanthropists. Lighting Science Group, the manufacturer representing Oncor in the project, will exhibit at the CGI conference.

The Take A Load Off, Texas LED Lighting Program offers incentives for eligible commercial, non-profit and governmental customers to upgrade parking lots, garages and other facilities with energy-efficient LED lighting and controls. Monetary incentives may be provided, subject to availability, to eligible applicants upon the verified completion of a qualified lighting project. Oncor will determine the amount of monetary incentives to be granted, if any, for each qualifying lighting project based on peak-demand and annual energy savings resulting from LED installations or retrofits.
