This new range represents a major breakthrough in LED lighting

The new LED Reflectors are available as direct replacements for GU10, Par 16, Par 20, Par 30 and AR111 type halogen lamps ranging from 35W to 75W, and offer significant savings in installed electrical load as well as energy consumption. Initially they will be available with GU10, SES, and E27 fitting arrangements, with additional new formats to follow shortly. With a rated life of 20,000 hours there are also considerable savings possible in replacement costs. Megaman claim that the average cost of ownership shows a payback in under 4000 hours operation, making a change from traditional halogen spotlights to LED Reflectors now very affordable and sensible for the environment. The Technicalities.

The clever design of these lamps is based around an innovative vertical array of LEDs mounted back to back to generate as much of a point source as possible within the reflector, thus increasing efficiency and light output. So these lamps are very bright, and offer a colour tolerance of just 100K shift in colour temperature – compared to an average of 800K for most other LED based lamps.Another common problem with existing LED-based lamps – heat generation – has been overcome by incorporating a patented heat sink arrangement (called TCH - or Thermal Conductive Highway). They therefore achieve outstanding heat dissipation – in fact the LED chip can be touched by an unprotected finger during operation without danger of burning. The very light weight of the heat sink arrangement also means that the lamp will not tilt when installed in track spots. MD of Megaman’s UK operation believes that the company’s new LED Reflector Range will meet a huge international requirement for very low energy lamps.

“This new range represents a major breakthrough in LED lighting, as it solves a number of key issues that have so far limited the take-up of these light sources in consumer applications. The result is that we have minimised energy consumption and heat generation, while maximising operational life and delivering three times more light output than other LEDs for the same wattage. We think they are going to be very popular replacements for halogen bulbs. The newly launched models can drive up to four LEDs for displays on portable applications with only one LED driver and MAP1042 has a stronger power control function with dual LDO built in than the other model. In the wake of its first launch of LED drivers for portable applications this time, Magnachip plans to reinforce its presence in the power semiconductor market by further expanding to the LED driver markets for notebooks and TVs down the road.

Universal Display will develop new technologies and processes for OLED manufacturing

In addition to the patent sale, the 2 companies are engaged in “a strategic relationship,” with strengthened and enhanced alliances between the companies. Fujifilm will expand its business for the supply of Fujifilm's highly functional materials, such as barrier films, conductive films and flexible substrates, to OLED manufacturers globally, including Universal Display's worldwide customer base. Universal Display will develop new technologies and processes for OLED manufacturing. John R. Peeler, Veeco’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commented, “Veeco continues to deliver solid results in a soft market. Second quarter revenue was $137 million, and adjusted EBITA and non-GAAP earnings per share were $20 million and $0.37, respectively, with gross margins of 45%. Veeco generated about $19 million in cash flow from operations, ending the quarter with $540 million in cash and short term investments.” Second quarter LED & Solar revenues were $87 million, including $75 mil...

the adoption of energy-efficient LED lighting across their campuses

Nuventix SynJet coolers are available now and already providing silent operation, long life, and optimal cooling to allow designs to incorporate the increased brightness necessary for large-scale commercial and consumer product acceptance. Bias SynPower modules are available in sample quantities. The workshops were key first steps in the launch of a new DOE SSL research and development (R&D) manufacturing initiative to enhance product consistency and quality and to accelerate cost reductions through manufacturing improvements. More than 350 total participants—chip makers, fixture and component manufacturers, and others—joined DOE at the workshops to examine underlying issues related to materials, equipment, and other factors that influence SSL product quality and cost. The Fairfax workshop attendees identified key barriers and recommendations toward lower-cost, higher-quality SSL products, and this input was used to develop a “strawman” roadmap for review at the Vancouver worksho...
