Disregard generic statements about LED lumen maintenance performance

Lumileds announced today that it is the first power LED manufacturer to publicly publish LM-80 test report data for use by luminaire manufacturers evaluating the merits of using different led high bay light in their solid-state lighting solutions. The data clearly demonstrates that lumen maintenance performance exceeds requirements by a wide margin as well as documenting lumen maintenance performance under various conditions.

Philips Lumileds LM-80 test reports adhere to and are published in accordance with the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) LM-80-08 standard. Philips Lumileds has been studying the factors that affect power LED lumen maintenance in an ongoing effort to improve performance and more accurately describe lumen maintenance behavior for the lighting community.

In order to appropriately design for optimum lumen maintenance, Philips Lumileds recommends that luminaire manufacturers and the lighting industry do the following:Understand the specific lumen maintenance behavior of the LEDs they have selected.Disregard generic statements about LED lumen maintenance performance and ask for information that’s appropriate for the anticipated current and temperature conditions.

The SynJet Universal 120 DLM Cooler is the perfect size for recessed downlight applications, where clearance is tight, specifically window displays, restaurants and museum lighting schemes. This smaller cooling solution allows for less than 60mm in total height. Additionally, it enables 2000 lumens in small profile, offers silent operation, over 100K hours of lifetime cooling and the highest possible energy efficiency for a thermal cooling solution. The SynJet Universal 120 DLM cooler will be on display at LEDs 2009 from October 20-22 at the San Diego Convention Center.

LED recessed downlighting options for general lighting in commercial

Cooper Lighting, a division of Cooper Industries plc (NYSE: CBE), has expanded its Halo LED H7 Collection offering additional choices in LED color temperatures and higher lumen options. The 6” LED downlight product line expansion–from the original Halo LED 600 Series–now includes the Halo LED 900 Series and Halo LED 1200 Series, offering a wide and versatile selection of energy-efficient LED recessed downlighting options for general lighting in commercial, retail, institutional and residential applications. Designed for new construction projects or to retrofit existing 6” nominal compatible housings (with an Edison screw base adapter included with the module), the Halo LED H7 Collection features excellent color rendering (80 CRI) and offers the industry’s widest selection of color temperatures (2700K, 3000K, 3500K and 4000K). The superior optical design yields productive beam lumens providing smooth, even illumination, excellent cutoff and extremely low glare. Consuming less than 15W, ...

The challenging combination of ambitious carbon reduction commitments

We continue to experience strong economic headwinds on a global scale, which affect growth going forward. Our Accelerate! program is helping to mitigate some of these pressures, and we have full confidence in our ability to continue improving the operational and financial performance of the company. Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust expect to achieve savings in the region of £21,000 after retrofitting LED lighting in several areas of the building, and payback in some areas is projected to take less than 2 years. The retrofit programme, delivered by advanced LED specialists Light Planet, has also reduced energy consumption by 68% and significantly lowered maintenance demands. The challenging combination of ambitious carbon reduction commitments and increasingly restricted budgets faced by the healthcare sector makes the appeal of energy-efficient lighting solutions stronger than ever. Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust identified LEDs as “a technology th...

Entertainment applications will adopt the new LEDs

The number and breadth of applications that require amber LEDs is tremendous,” said Frank Harder, VP of Product Marketing at Philips Lumileds. “Markets including automotive, entertainment, roadway, signaling, and many others use amber LEDs. With better efficiency and more light output, LUXEON Rebel PC amber makes it that much easier to reduce energy consumption with an environmentally friendly product.lamps to LEDs because they didn’t produce enough light and couldn’t operate effectively at higher temperatures. With the advances provided by LUXEON Rebel PC Amber, yellow traffic signals will be converted, warning lights and beacons on vehicles and obstructions will switch and entertainment applications will adopt the new LEDs. numbers of amber LEDs. With LUXEON Rebel PC Amber, manufacturers will be able to use fewer LEDs and lower other component costs because of the improved light output and particularly the stable color over temperature, something that has been problematic for many ...
